Leprechaun is a classic horror film that is so horrible that it's excellent. The narrative is ludicrous, the acting is exaggerated, and the special effects are laughable. However, all of these elements come together to make an enjoyable and amusing picture. Warwick Davis makes an outstanding job as the leprechaun, while Jennifer Aniston's cinematic debut is unexpectedly strong. If you like campy horror films, you should certainly check out Leprechaun. Warwick Davis' iconic depiction of an enraged leprechaun has entered the realm of urban legend. As the video progresses, the leprechaun begins to suspect that a human family has taken his pot of gold. He decides to go on a quest for them and uses all of his wits and might to do so. In the meanwhile, the family is franticly looking for the gold so they may appease the leprechaun and avoid any damage. Dan O'Grady goes back to his home in North Dakota in 1983 after visiting his birthplace, Ireland, where he kidnapped a leprechaun and stole his pot of gold. After O'Grady buried the treasure, he found out that the bad leprechaun had followed him home and killed his wife. O'Grady uses a four-leaf clover to stop the leprechaun's magic and put him in a box. He had a stroke before he could set him on fire.
Ten years later, J. D. Redding and his teenage daughter Tory rent the O'Grady farmhouse for the summer. Painting the farmhouse is a job for Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their friend Ozzie Jones, who works as a contract worker. Ozzie hears the leprechaun calling for help while he is searching the basement. He thinks the leprechaun is a small child. He lets the leprechaun out of the box by taking out the old four-leaf clover. Ozzie asks the leprechaun who he is. The leprechaun tells Ozzie that he is an Irish shoemaker who came to America to find his fortune. Ozzie fails to convince the others that he saw a leprechaun. He then sees a rainbow and follows it, hoping to find a pot of gold. Alex goes with him because he is afraid Ozzie will hurt himself. Before Ozzie, a magic trick makes a bag with 100 gold coins appear. After Ozzie checks it out and accidentally eats a coin, they hide the gold in an old well. They did this because they thought it would heal Ozzie's brain.
The leprechaun at the farm tricks J. D. into falling into a trap by pretending to be a cat, biting and hurting his hand. The leprechaun rides a tricycle after Tory and the others bring him to the hospital. When Alex and Ozzie travel to a pawn shop to check the purity of the gold, the leprechaun murders the owner, Joe, for taking his gold and polishes Joe's shoes before escaping. On his journey back to the farmhouse, the leprechaun makes himself a little go-kart and is stopped by a policeman for speeding. The leprechaun pursues the police officer into the woods, where the leprechaun ultimately kills the cop. The leprechaun goes back to the farmhouse and looks for his treasure while shining every shoe he sees. The gang heads back to the farmhouse after dropping J. D. off at the hospital. When Nathan investigates outside after finding it looted, a leprechaun-set bear trap injures him. Outside, the group attacks the leprechaun and beats him with rocks and clubs.
When they find a gun in the house, the leprechaun is shot many times. They try to leave the property when it doesn't work, but the leprechaun has broken the truck's engine. After crashing the car with the go-kart, the leprechaun scares the group until Ozzie says that he and Alex found the pot of gold. Tory gets the bag out of the well, and then he gives it to the leprechaun. They go to the hospital because they are sure that the worst is over. As the leprechaun counts his money, he realizes that Ozzie ate his last coin. He threatens them because he thinks they're trying to trick him, but Ozzie tells them that O'Grady had a stroke and was taken to a nursing home. The group gets the leprechaun's attention by throwing dirty shoes at him. The leprechaun has to go shine the shoes while Tory gets in her jeep and drives away. Tory goes to the house to find out how to kill the leprechaun.
At the nursing home, the leprechaun pretends as O'Grady. The leprechaun chases Tory to an elevator and throws O'Grady's bleeding body down the elevator shaft as Tory flees. Before passing away, O'Grady advises her that the only way to kill the leprechaun is with a four-leaf clover, which happens to grow in a vast area outside the property. Tory returns to the home in search of a clover, but the leprechaun attacks and Nathan and Ozzie defend her. The leprechaun is gravely injured while trying to get the last gold coin, which Ozzie admits to having eaten. Alex ties a four-leaf clover found by Tory to a wad of gum and shoots it into the leprechaun's mouth, forcing him to melt away before he can kill Ozzie. Despite plunging into the well, the skeleton of the leprechaun emerges and says, "I want my gold." Nathan uses gasoline to fire both artifacts after forcing the leprechaun back into the well. Tory is reconciled with her father, marries Nathan, and they have a child when the cops arrive. While the cops examine the well's debris, the leprechaun says he won't stop until he recovers every last piece of his fortune.

The producers wanted to make the movie scarier so that older people would want to see it. This meant that several scenes had to be reshot.
It is well knowledge that George Lucas was involved in the selection of Warwick Davis for the role of Willow. The explanation behind this, however, is not as well recognized. It would seem (more info) that Davis was bound by a contract with Lucas, and Lucas was required to grant his OK before Davis could feature in the film. As a consequence of this, he was recognized at the very end of the movie with a "special thanks" credit. Fans of horror films will find that the movie is much more intriguing when they learn this little-known truth. It's simply another illustration of how much of an impact George Lucas has had on popular culture.
It was always assumed that the leprechaun would eventually make his way back to his native Ireland. But there was one problem: the Irish actor who was portraying the leprechaun, Warwick Davis, did not have a work visa. In order to shoot the last sequence, Davis needed to secure a visa in only three days - an impossible job under normal circumstances. Fortunately, Vice President Dan Quayle's administration was able to speed up the procedure and Davis was able to complete shooting on time.
